BTB April 2012 Newsletter
April 2012 Supply and Demand
With March having come and gone in a flash, the early season panic has now been replaced with a genuine sense of purpose at BTB. It has been clear for some time that the demand for BTB’s exhaust development skills can sometimes exceed our facility to deliver. With this in mind another 4 post ramp is due to be installed, which will double BTB’s capacity to fabricate under car systems, and free up more space for other vehicles that can be worked on at floor height.
Lola T70 at Race Retro
The decision to exhibit Jason Wright’s sublime Lola T70 on BTB’s stand at Race Retro, proved to be a good one. The British Racing Green car not only complemented BTB’s own colour scheme perfectly, it also drew a steady stream of fellow T70 owners, attracted by the recently fabricated BTB silencers. It seems that opportunities for testing such cars are increasingly limited by strict circuit noise limits, so an exhaust that reduces the Chevy powered car’s noise level to below 105dB is a much needed solution. Since the show BTB has already equipped two more T70s with their repackable silencers.
BTB Heritage
April 1st 2011 saw the unveiling of the BTB heritage centre, full of (small scale) examples of significant cars from BTB’s exhaust development history. This April saw another new addition in the form of a BTCC Seat Diesel, driven in its day by a certain J. Plato. History, as we know, has a habit of repeating itself, and this time it is in full scale. The famous “Marmitey” driver that everyone loves to hate is driving a BTB equipped car in the BTCC once more. This time it is the Triple Eight Race Engineering prepared MG6, which made a stunning start to the season by scoring it’s first win at Brand Hatch in the car’s third race. BTB’s first conversation with the team’s engineers was at the Autosport show in January and it was a privilege to see how a top team can put together a winning car so quickly.
Nurburgring 24 Hour Race
Carvell Motorsport, run by the sons of BTB’s long suffering secretary Jane, have kicked off their preparations for an assault on this year’s Nurburgring 24Hour race with their first race at the fearsome Nordeschleife. Their diesel XF finished a solid second in class on it’s debut, and the team have several more visits planned before the big one in May.
